6/8/2018 - Board of Supervisors recognizes Broomin' and Bloomin' volunteers

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors honored this year's Broomin' and Bloomin' volunteers on May 29 with the presentation of a resolution of recognition, which was approved unanimously by the Board on May 14, 2018. Prior to the presentation by the Board, a reception was held at the Montgomery County Government Center for the volunteers to thank them for their time and efforts in participating in the annual clean up event.

More than 100 volunteers from 24 private and public organizations participated in this year's Broomin' and Bloomin' event on April 28. The volunteers covered over 37 miles of the county and collected nearly a ton of debris.

Broomin' and Bloomin' is an annual clean-up event hosted by Montgomery County that began in 1983. Each year, volunteers come together to pick up trash and help to clean up roadsides, parks, streams, school grounds and other public properties. Trash bags, gloves, and safety vests are provided to the volunteers. Volunteers may choose the site they want to clean up or select from locations needing to be cleaned.

The purpose of the event is to help to beautify the county and raise awareness of the need for people to properly dispose of trash.

Montgomery County is truly grateful for all the efforts the volunteers who contributed their time and energy for this year's event.
