For the fifth consecutive year, the Center for Digital Government (CDG) and the National Association of Counties (NACo) recognized Montgomery County as a leading digital county. This year is the 16th year of the annual Digital Counties Survey, which is conducted by CDG in partnership with NACo.
Montgomery County placed fourth out of the top 10 counties with populations of less than 150,000.
The purpose of the annual survey is to identify best technology practices among U.S. counties, with emphasis being placed on initiatives that streamline delivery of government services, encourage collaboration and shared services, enhance cybersecurity and even reduce carbon emissions.
"Montgomery County is fortunate to have dedicated and talented individuals who strive to facilitate innovative and efficient technology for employees and citizens. This recognition is a testament to all of our hard work and collaboration," said Phil Martin, IT Director for Montgomery County.
The survey results are based on 10 characteristics that comprise Digital Counties to include:
- Open: Transparency/ Open Data / Data Governance;
- Mobile: Mobility/ Mobile Applications;
- Engaged: Social Media/ Portal/ Citizen Engagement;
- Collaborative: Shared Services/Collaboration Initiatives;
- Secure: Cybersecurity Measures/ Initiatives;
- Staffed/ Supported: Hiring and Retaining Competent IT Personnel;
- Connected: Broadband/Wireless Infrastructure;
- Efficient: Budget/Cost Control/ Performance Measures;
- Resilient: Disaster Recovery/ Continuity of Operations; and
- Innovation and Best Practices.
