Coronavirus Update Mar. 12, 2020

No cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County; Gov. Northam declares State of Emergency; MCPS, NRCC, RU, and VT announce preventative measures.


As of today (Mar. 12), there are still no confirmed or presumed positive cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Montgomery County, the New River Valley, or southwestern Virginia. However, there now 17 presumed positive cases in Virginia. Read more.

Today, Governor Northam declared a State of Emergency and outlined measures to manage COVID-19 in Virginia. Read more.

In addition, local educational institutions have updated plans and protocols. 

Montgomery County Public Schools announced that beginning Mar. 13, 2020, field trips outside of Montgomery County, as well as to Radford University or Virginia Tech have been canceled. Updates regarding MCPS plans and protocols will be made at www.mcps.org/covid19

Virginia Tech and Radford University have extended Spring Break and moved to online classes. New River Community College has also extended Spring Break.
