The County launched an emergency alert system to provide notifications quickly to your cell, work or home phone, by email or text messages. Alerts may be sent to provide news about road closures, severe weather, water service interruptions and other potential safety hazards or concerns.

Residents, business owners and others must register the voice and text communication devices where they wish to receive messages. Messages can be sent in voice and text formats to all standard devices, including land line phone, cell phone and email. With the exception of Tornado Warnings (and "All Clear" notices) and Flash Flood Warnings, users may set times NOT to receive automated weather notifications.

In addition to emergency alerts from the County, subscribers may also opt to receive information from the Town of Blacksburg and the Town of Christiansburg.

Sign up by creating an account and adding your contact information to the alert system. All information provided will be kept confidential to protect your privacy.

If you wish to modify your emergency alerts, log in to the Citizens Alert website and edit "My Alert Subscriptions."

To remove your account from the system, email infodesk@montgomerycountyva.gov or contact Emergency Services Coordinator Michael Geary at gearymp@montgomerycountyva.gov.

If you have questions, contact Michael Geary at (540) 394-2146 or visit the Citizens Alert Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page.
