Football/Cheerleading

Updates
Registration for football, cheerleading, and fall baseball and softball begins July 1 at 8:30 a.m. Participants cannot play both football or cheer and fall baseball or softball. For season. equipment, and league information, see the information below.
New for football - Birth certificates are now required. Email a photo to mcpr@montgomerycountyva.gov or stop by our office and we can make a copy.
If you are interested in coaching, fill out our volunteer coaching form.
We need football referees, basketball referees, and baseball/softball umpires! We pay $50 per football game, $25 per coach pitch game, $50 per kid pitch game, and $40 per basketball game. Call (540) 382-6975 or email mcpr@montgomerycountyva.gov if interested.
How to Register
Your child must play with the recreation department where they attend school.
Uniforms
We do not have sample uniform sizes. Please pick the best size based on what your child currently wears. We offer the following sizes:
- Youth: Small (6-8), Medium (10-12), Large (14-16)
- Adult: Small, Medium, Large, XL, 2XL
Your coach will be in contact with you several weeks after the registration deadline. If you register online, please ensure your email address, phone number, and mailing address are up to date.
Season Information
- Registration begins July 1
- Season runs August through October
- Practice can start as early as August 15, 2022 and can be held four times per week. Specific times are up to the coach.
- Games can start the week of September 5, 2022. We will not have the schedules until closer to this date. Games will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays with an occasional Thursday or Saturday.
Equipment Information
- Equipment pick-up day is August 20, 2022. Montgomery County Parks and Recreation provides a helmet, football pads, and a mouth guard on this day.
- Parents need to provide practice pants and cleats.
League Information
Flag Football
This program allows boys and girls to play non-contact football in a fast-paced and exciting environment. Participants must be rising kindergarteners or first graders.
Tackle Football
Part of the New River Valley League, this is a full contact league designed to provide instruction on fundamentals while stressing the importance of sportsmanship. We offer Mite League for 2-3 graders, and Junior League for 4-5 graders.
Leagues are based on the participant’s grade level entering the upcoming school year.
Cheerleading
Got the spirit? Come join one of our cheer squads. This program provides an introduction to basic cheer, stunts, and techniques. Cheer squads are assigned to a football team in the corresponding area and age group. We offer Mite League for 2-3 graders, and Junior League for 4-5 graders.
Leagues are based on the participant’s grade level entering the upcoming school year.
