11/4/2016 - Public Information receives top award
Montgomery County’s Public Information Office received the Gold Summit Award for its “Citizens Alert – Sign up Today!” video at the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America’s Summit Awards gala on Nov. 3.

The 20th annual Summit Awards recognize the best in public relations work in western Virginia. The chapter received more than 60 entries in various campaign and tactics categories. The County’s video was the only award presented in the public service announcement category. The video highlights the launch of an emergency notification system used by the County, Blacksburg, Christiansburg and the NRV Health District to inform citizens about weather, crime and other emergencies. The video may be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKilO3FU5BI .

The Chapter also honored the memories of WDBJ TV’s Alison Parker and Adam Ward who tragically died in August 2015. The inaugural Adam & Alison Award for Media Excellence went to longtime reporter Joe Dashiell of WDBJ TV.

The Blue Ridge Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America is a professional association serving Central and Southwest Virginia public relations practitioners. Since 1992, the chapter has strived to bring together professionals to enhance the practice, provide an exchange of experiences and ideals, and promote professional development.
