4/28/2017 - Paula Alston retires as Library Director

After more than 10 years of service as the Library Director of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library, Paula Alston will retire, effective May 1, 2017.

Prior to becoming the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Director, Alston spent 16 years at the Chesapeake Public Library in Chesapeake, Va. In total, she’s spent over three decades working in libraries. While she grew up in Montana and spent time in Oregon, she now calls Montgomery County her home.

“Paula is a true collaborator and has been dedicated to providing access and experiences through our libraries to the community. We have seen so many great and innovative changes in our library system under her leadership,” said Craig Meadows, County Administrator.

Since joining the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library on August 1, 2006, the list of projects Paula has successfully managed is extensive. One primary and ongoing project is that of helping to bring the library into the 21st century.

“The biggest change I’ve seen in the last 10 years is probably the growth of e-books and downloadable books,” says Alston. “We’ve had to continue to reinvent ourselves in order to keep up with the technology and stay relevant.”

“While I’ll miss the day-to-day interactions and the relationships, I’m looking forward to this next chapter of life,” said Alston.

A search for a new library director is currently being conducted.
