At an annual Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA) conference on June 8, 2023, Angela Hill was awarded the Marcia Mashaw Outstanding Assistant Award.
This prestigious award honors the memory of Marcia Mashaw, who was serving as Assistant Town Manager for the Town of Blacksburg when she passed away at age 45 in 1986. In an effort to honor her outstanding work during her shortened career, VLGMA created the Marcia Mashaw Outstanding Assistant Award.
“We all know and appreciate how dedicated Angie is and how hard she works every day for the employees and citizens of Montgomery County,” said County Administrator Craig Meadows.
“Angie's caring leadership style and her positive attitude through any challenge is recognized and appreciated by County employees and colleagues,” said Meadows.
Hill joined Montgomery County in October 1997 as Director of Financial and Management Services. Angie has served over 25 years, and is actively engaged in our community with her husband and two sons.
In 2020, Hill assumed the lead as fiscal agent for the New River Valley Public Health Task Force (NRVPHTF), which was established in March 2020 as a collaborative effort to provide residents in Montgomery, Giles, Floyd, and Pulaski Counties, and the City of Radford with guidance related to COVID-19. The NRVPHTF consists of representatives from local health, government, education, and business organizations who worked together to mitigate the regional pandemic impacts. As fiscal agent, Hill provided leadership in the NRVPHTF, assisting the task force with related financial needs, including securing PPE, testing and vaccination clinic supplies, and small business recovery grants, while also maintaining her duties with the County.
Hill was promoted to Assistant County Administrator and CFO in December 2020. In November 2021, she was named Deputy County Administrator and CFO.
Shortly after assuming the latest role, she served as interim director for two integral departments – Information Technology and Human Resources – when both directors sought opportunities outside of the organization.
“Even with work challenges, family life, and service to her community, Angie continues to go above and beyond in her duties as Deputy County Administrator and CFO and the many additional roles in her commitment to the citizens of Montgomery County,” said Meadows.
