As 12 p.m. today, September 27, Montgomery County has declared a local state of emergency in preparation for anticipated flooding throughout the area due to Hurricane Helene.
There are no immediate weather-related emergencies in Montgomery County. However, citizens in the following areas are encouraged to prepare accordingly:
McCoy and Little River Road (Exit 105) Areas:
Voluntary evacuations are in place for flood-prone areas along:
- the New River to include Big Falls Road and Roundhouse Road, and
- Little River Road at exit 105.
Elliston/Shawsville Areas:
No evacuations are planned at this time. However, citizens are urged to use caution along areas near waterways, especially along Cannery Road, Flick Drive and Alleghany Springs Road.
- Cannery Road,
- Flick Drive, and
- Alleghany Springs Road.
In addition, please note at this time there are reports of significant debris several roadways throughout Montgomery County. Please use caution.
By declaring a local state of emergency, the County can now request additional state and federal resources such as equipment and personnel if they are deemed necessary.
