Plan establishes a vision to guide growth, investment and community development over the next 20 years
On June 22, 2026, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors adopted Part 5 of Montgomery Matters, the County’s Comprehensive Plan, including the Future Land Use Map and Village Plans for Elliston-Lafayette, Prices Fork, Riner and Shawsville. This action completed approval of all five parts of the Plan, following adoption of Parts 1–4 earlier this spring.
Completion of the Mont
gomery Matters Comprehensive Plan represents a significant milestone and establishes a long-term vision to guide growth, infrastructure, services and investment throughout Montgomery County over the next two decades.
Montgomery Matters represents more than two years of planning, community engagement and collaboration led by the Planning and GIS Services Department with support from County departments, partner agencies and community members.
Throughout the planning process, County staff engaged thousands of citizens through open houses, village meetings, stakeholder discussions and three countywide surveys.
"Montgomery Matters reflects a shared vision developed through extensive collaboration and community engagement," said Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Chair April DeMotts.
"This plan will serve as a roadmap to guide decision-making and investment while preserving the qualities that make Montgomery County a great place to live, work and play."
Montgomery Matters is intended to guide future decisions related to land use, transportation, housing, economic development, infrastructure, public facilities and community services while supporting sustainable growth and long-term community goals.
With adoption complete, Montgomery County will now transition from planning to implementation and continue working with community partners to bring the vision of Montgomery Matters to life in the years ahead.
