Volunteer Montgomery

Volunteer opportunities include assisting area non-profit organizations, visiting nursing homes, bake sales and specialized events throughout the year.

Volunteer time commitment is up to each individual and their availability. Volunteers must be willing to serve without compensation. Minors (under 18 years of age) must have a parent/guardian accompany them on all Volunteer Montgomery activities. Parent/guardian must also complete a Volunteer Enrollment Application.

*We do not facilitate court-ordered community service at this time.

Reporting Hours

It has been brought to our attention lately that many of our volunteers don’t report all of your hours because you don’t want to boast or brag about the service you provide. Volunteer Montgomery thrives and EXISTS because of your service hours to our community! Please remember that we are generously funded by the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors because of all of the reports we send about projects and hours that our volunteers provide each year. If you have any questions about how to report your hours each month, please contact a member of our team at volunteermontgomery@montgomerycountyva.gov!

You can submit volunteer hours by mail, email or by visiting https://forms.montva.com/Forms/volunteer-hours. If you use this link, your volunteer time will be emailed to staff.

Meet the Team at Playa Bowls

In lieu of an evening event, Volunteer Montgomery will be hosting a Meet the Team event at Playa Bowls in Blacksburg. This event is on August 21 from 11 am to 2 pm. A percent of sales during the entire day will go back to Volunteer Montgomery.

Give Local NRV 2026

Thank you for everyone's support during Give Local NRV. We surpassed our goal! Every donation counts and is all used to give back to our community! We will be able to continue to do great projects such as Supplies for Seniors, Holiday Tote Bags, and more thanks to our supporters & volunteers.

Office Closures

September 7, 2026: Our office will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

October 12, 2026: Our office will be closed on Monday, October 12, in observance of Memorial Day.

November 3, 2026: Our office will be closed on Tuesday, November 3, in observance of Election Day.

November 11, 2026: Our office will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.

November 24, 2026: Our office will be closing at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, in observance of Thanksgiving.

5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Aug 04, 2026 | Christiansburg Police Department National Night Out
Volunteer Montgomery will be set up during this annual event sponsored by the Town of Christiansburg Police Department. The event will be held at Huckleberry Park on Tuesday, August 4 from 5-8 pm. Children and families can learn more about local Emergency Services, while also joining in on fun activities! Free food, face painting, snow cones, and demonstrations will be available. We hope to see you there!

12:00 PM - 3:30 PM Aug 11, 2026 | VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement in Salem (Bingo)

Volunteer Montgomery will provide transportation for volunteers participating in visits and activities. Contact the office for more details. Transportation is provided, please arrive no later than 12 pm, the time we leave, at our office if you'd like to carpool with us!

10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Aug 15, 2026 | Touch-A-Truck Event
The New River Valley Home Builders Association’s Touch-A-Truck NRV will be held on Saturday, August 15 from 10 am to 3 pm. This event allows children to become familiar with Building Industry and Public Service careers by offering an educational opportunity to explore trucks, tractors, heavy machinery and to interact with the people who build, protect, and serve the NRV.

Volunteer Montgomery will have a tent set up during this event. We are also looking for volunteers. Volunteers are needed from 10 am -1:30 pm and 1:30-3 pm to help with display set up and take down, teaching children to craft and/or color Butterfly Hugs, and sharing information about Volunteer Montgomery.

Join us for a night of fun at Iron Tree Brewing Company in Christiansburg for BINGO Night!

These BINGO Nights are a fundraiser for the Volunteer Montgomery programs, so we can continue to be able to give back and support our community! Tickets are $10 each and gets you one BINGO card. Additional BINGO cards can be purchased for $5.

In addition, we have gift card prizes each round and grand prizes! Tasty drinks are available from Iron Tree Brewery and delicious food from Cabo Fish Taco!
