Volunteer Montgomery

Volunteer opportunities include assisting area non-profit organizations, visiting nursing homes, bake sales and specialized events throughout the year.

Volunteer time commitment is up to each individual and their availability. Volunteers must be willing to serve without compensation.  Minors (under 18 years of age) must have a parent/guardian accompany them on all Volunteer Montgomery activities. Parent/guardian must also complete a Volunteer Enrollment Application.

Volunteer Montgomery is seeking participants for its Chili Cook-Off fundraising event! The event takes place on Oct. 19, at 10 am, at the Montgomery County Government Center. Early Entry Fee: $5 (Register by Aug. 1). Regular Entry Fee: $10 (Register by Sep. 1). To register, call 540-382-5775 or email volunteermontgomery@montgomerycountyva.gov

• BINGO! Tickets still available – Our Bingo event will be held at Creed Fields Park in Elliston on June 29, from 11 am to 2 pm. Food and desserts will be provided by Cabo Fish Taco food truck and Spoons Frozen Yogurt truck! Prizes will be a $10 gift card for each game and a $50 grand prize gift card. It is a $10 donation per admission ticket. We are accepting donations for only 75 tickets. All donations will benefit our community programs.
• Give Local NRV Giving Day – Give Local this year is from noon to noon, June 26-27. Early giving begins June 1! The link to donate is here: https://www.mightycause.com/story/8vicff. ALL donations to Volunteer Montgomery stay local to assist with our in-house community programs such as Supplies for Seniors, Scholarships, Cards and Coupons for Active Military and Vets, etc. Our goal this year is to raise $2,000 to support our local community!
• Cards & Coupons at Volunteer Montgomery – This event will be held on Monday, June 10 and Monday, June 24, from 9 am to 12 pm. Come join us at our office in clipping coupons and making cards for active military and veterans! All supplies provided by Volunteer Montgomery.
• Community Garden Evening Event at Volunteer Montgomery – Help us plant a seed t the Health District Community Garden! This event is Thursday, June 27 from 6-8 pm. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join us as we plant tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, and zucchini at the community garden. We will meet at the Volunteer Montgomery office at 6 pm and walk to the garden. All supplies will be provided!
• TRIAD & Volunteer Montgomery Ice Cream Social & Card Project – Volunteer Montgomery is teaming up with our local TRIAD program to make cards for residents of local nursing homes! This event will be at the Christiansburg Rec Center on Tuesday, June 18 at 1:30 pm. There will be an Ice Cream Social as well as a speaker from Paws of Honor. All card-making supplies will be provided.
• Women’s Resource Center Supply Drive – Throughout the month of June, we are collecting the following supplies to support the Women’s Resource Center: Paper Towels, Toilet Paper, Dishwasher Liquid, Curly/Textured Hair Products, Large Size Pull-Ups (Size 4+), and Shower Curtains. Donations can be dropped off at our office during regular business hours, M-F, 8:30 am to 5 pm.
• Designer Handbag Collection – Volunteer Montgomery is making plans for a Designer Handbag Auction later this year! To prepare, we are accepting donations of new and gently used designer purses whose original value exceeded $100 for the auction. Donations can be dropped off at our office during business hours (M-F, 8:30 am – 5 pm). Please note that any purses showing significant wear or do not meet the required retail value will not be accepted for this particular event.
