On Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors unanimously reelected Christopher Tuck, District B, as chair and elected April DeMotts, District G, as the vice chair.
"I'm looking forward to doing great things in the name of bipartisanship with my fellow board members in 2018," said Chair Tuck.
"This is how it should be, both Republicans and Democrats collaborating and working for our constituents. I know we won't always agree on every issue, but we can always agree to respect one another and to work together to do what is right for the citizens of Montgomery County."
It has been four years since a Republican and a Democrat served as chair and vice chair on the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors. In 2014 and 2015, two Democrats served as chair and vice chair. Then, in 2016 and 2017, two Republicans served as chair and vice chair.
"I'm honored that my fellow board members nominated me in this leadership role on the Board of Supervisors," said Vice Chair DeMotts.
"We have a lot of work to do moving forward and we need to stay focused on the needs of Montgomery County as we continue to foster a productive and effective bipartisan environment on the Board of Supervisors."
Vice Chair DeMotts was elected to the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors in 2015. Her term began in 2016. Chair Tuck was first elected to the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors in 2011 and then reelected in 2015.
This year marks the fourth time in 20 years when a board member served as chair for three consecutive years. Prior to Tuck, Jim Politis, District D, served as board chair from 2011-2013; Annette Perkins, District A, served as board chair from 2008-2010; and finally Mary Biggs, District F, served as board chair from 2000-2002.
In addition to the chair and vice chair elections, the Board of Supervisors also voted on organizational matters to include selecting regular meeting dates and times as the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:15 p.m.; rules of order and parliamentary procedures; and code of ethics and standards of conduct.
Finally, the Board also voted on primary representatives and alternate representatives to more than 20 boards and commissions.
