The Montgomery County Circuit Court issues
marriage licenses from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday - Friday. Both spouses must be present for the application process. You must bring a valid, non-expired, U.S. or state government issued photo ID with you to apply. Some examples are drivers licenses,
military ID's or U.S. passports. Please contact our office with any questions regarding this requirement.
A marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued. The marriage license is valid immediately upon issuance - there is
no waiting period. If the couple is not married within 60 days of obtaining the license, the license is null and void and can no longer be used and a new marriage license must be obtained.
Once issued, the license is valid anywhere in the state
of Virginia. Virginia marriage licenses are not valid outside the state limits. The couple must be married by a minister or officiant who is authorized to perform marriages within Virginia.
The current cost of a marriage license is $30. You
will apply for the license when you come into the office.
If you wish to be married at the Courthouse, you must make your own arrangements with a minister or marriage officiant. Neither the Judges nor the Circuit Court Clerk currently perform
weddings. Bill Brown
