Our Active Adults and Senior programming is a combination effort with Montgomery CountyChristiansburgBlacksburg, and Radford Parks and Recreation departments, the Montgomery County and Radford RSVP, and Meadowbrook Library

Enjoy programs catering to adults ages 50+, including arts and crafts, games, music, special presentations, picnics, socials, and more. See what's out there by signing up for our many trips and tours. We offer a wealth of activities to encourage life enrichment through engagement in social and physical activity, while taking a trip off the beaten path! 

Please be prepared to physically distance and wear at mask at all activities.

Winter/Spring 2021 Programs

Coffee Social - Free

Tuesdays - Jan. 12, Feb. 9, Feb. 23, Mar. 9, Mar. 23, Apr. 6, Apr. 20

10 a.m. - 11 a.m., Great Road Coffee - 100 W Main Street, Christiansburg

From the farm to your cup - responsible, all natural, and fresh! Join us for a safe, physically distanced coffee social hour! Great Road Coffee has plenty of room to physically distance while hanging out with friends. Each participant is responsible for their drink and food cost. Please bring a mask to wear. The deadline to register is the day prior to each event.

Virtual Trip Series: Alaska - Free

Leave your bags at home and join us for the virtual travel series! Our first destination is wild and beautiful Alaska. Participants will receive a "passport" that we will stamp for each destination. Prizes will be awarded in December 2021. Lunch is included. We are offering this event in two sessions: 

Session 1 - Fri, Feb. 19, 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., Christiansburg Recreation Center, Multipurpose Room #2

  • The deadline to register for Session 1 is February 12.

Session 2 - Fri, Feb. 26, 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., Christiansburg Recreation Center, Multipurpose Room #2

  • The deadline to register for Session 2 is February 19.

 

Mystery Movies and Munchies - Free

Join us for a mystery movie and refreshments! Register by the Monday prior to each movie. 

 

Deerfield Hike - $7

Thu, Feb. 25, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., Deerfield Trail

The Deerfield Trail is an easy walk along the banks of Toms Creek. This paved trail will take us through open meadows and hardwood stands of trees. Light snacks will be provided. Parking is right off Toms Creek Road, 1/2 mile past the Blacksburg Dog Park. Take a right onto Deerfield Dr. The deadline to register is February 23. Level I

 

Surprise Virtual Bluegrass/Gospel Concert - $5

Let us bring the music to you! Light refreshments will be provided. The deadline to register is March 1.

 

Virtual Trip Series: Ireland - $10

St. Patrick's Day Bingo - $4

Join us as we celebrate St. Patrick's Day with food and bingo! Participants are asked to bring $1 in quarters for bingo prizes. The deadline to register is March 11.

Let us bring the music to you! This concert is from the 1960's rock and roll/blues genre. Light refreshments will be provided. The deadline to register is March 16.

Let us bring the music to you! This concert is from the 1960's beach music genre. Light refreshments will be provided. The deadline to register is March 29.

 

Easter Egg Wreath - $15

Bring your imagination to make an Easter wreath for your front door! The fee includes all supplies. The deadline to register is March 24.

 

Easter Egg Decorating and Bingo - $4

Fri, Apr. 2, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Christiansburg Recreation Center, Multipurpose Room #2

Join us for a fun afternoon of decorating Easter eggs and playing bingo! Participants are asked to bring $1 in quarters for bingo prizes. The deadline to register is March 26.

 

Step-by-Step Canvas Painting: Moonrise - $17

Tue, Apr. 13, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Christiansburg Recreation Center, Multipurpose Room #1

Join instructor Beverly Bridges to paint a scenic moonrise landscape on canvas. She will provide clear instructions every step of the way, so even if you are a beginner this class is for you! The fee includes all supplies. The deadline to register is April 6.

 

Eastern Montgomery Wildflower Hike - $14

Thu, Apr. 22, 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Eastern Montgomery Park

Get out and shake off the winter blues while we look for the first wildflowers popping up. This hike takes us along the South Fork of the Roanoke River. Lunch will be provided after the hike while we physical distance under the picnic shelter. The deadline to register is April 20. Level I

 

Step-by-Step Canvas Painting: Sunrise - $17

Tue, May 11, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Christiansburg Recreation Center, Multipurpose Room #1

Join instructor Beverly Bridges to paint a scenic sunrise landscape on canvas. She will provide clear instructions every step of the way, so even if you are a beginner this class is for you! The fee includes all supplies. The deadline to register is May 4.

 

How to Register

Register online, by phone at (540) 382-6975, or by visiting our office in the Montgomery County Government Center, located at 755 Roanoke Street, Suite 1E, in Christiansburg.

 

Policies

Deadlines: A deadline is set to secure tickets. If the minimum number of participants is not met, an activity will be canceled.

Refunds: For a full refund, cancellations must be made prior to the registration deadline. An exception can be made only if a substitute is provided or the vacancy can be filled from the Wait List. Refunds are automatic if an activity is cancelled. 

Medicine: Participants must travel with at least a 24-hour supply of medication in the event of a return delay due to inclement weather or other circumstance.

Inclement Weather: If Montgomery County Schools are cancelled or on a 2+ hour delay, programs will be cancelled.

Wait List: If an activity is full at the time of inquiry, you can request to be placed on the waiting list. If a vacancy becomes available, participants will be notified and given seven days to submit the fee.
